Ok, so 6 years ago the difference is just that IT is HBA and IR is both HBA and RAID? Seems like IR is just fine.?

LSI9211-IT = Straight pass through no RAID, best for ZFS file system etcLSI9211-IR = Pass through as in IT mode, but you also have RAID options (RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 1e and RAID 10), better for RAID 0 Windows boot SSDs etc, and possibly run Software RAID 5 on the other drives. When trying to updated LCC inventory, I get a pre-boot error similar to this Īnyways, here is what I've amassed so far.

Side Note specific to me:I configured iDRAC, adjusted some BIOS settings, ran both Dell bootable firmware update ISOs (new one didn't update iDRAC for some reason, so ran both), pulled the H700 out, threw the H200 in, ran OpenManage Essentials to clean up anything left.

If I have a Dell R510 + a Dell PERC H200 and intend to run FreeNAS, keep the controller in the Storage slot, and boot off USB.what do I need to do? Do I need to flash LSI's IT firmware? Do I just need to upgrade to the latest Dell IR firmware and be sure not to use RAID? I've found conflicting answers, date ranging over the last helf-decade or so, and other people asking the same question in an Archived thread and no clear answer. What I can't quite seem to narrow down is what I actually should be doing properly here. I just purchased 2x Dell R510s with H700 cards and am replacing them with H200s for FreeNAS. Open Manage isn't happy with it, and wants to "Update", but I'm guessing that's expected, haha. Board name didn't change from PERC H200A for me, but all appears good thus far.
